Beauty inspirations: Offset and foremost, it's the women in my life. My sister growing up. Kind of the thought of being lilliputian and seeing my actually feminine, fabulous sister, but she was besides super kick-@ss. Fashion. Interiors. Wallpapers. Machine paint. Cupcakes. Pastries. California. Of form, the beach. It's such a large part part of who I am. You know, information technology literally comes from everywhere. I get very obsessed with things. I beloved anything retro glam, archetype. Ya know, I honey trends and I love the '80s and I'k obsessed with, yous know, but accessories and way. I love stationary and hymeneals cakes and chocolate and clovers and chihuahuas. I love horses. I don't know, I'm obsessed with horses all all of a sudden…
One word that best describes your outlook on beauty: Blithesome!
What makeup/beauty products can't you alive without?
I cannot alive without and will never live without my Bulletproof Brows, which is my new product that's coming out. People will be Fond to it. It will change your life.
My bronzers, my bronzing wardrobe. I have a different bronzer for every different outfit. Every different time of year, every moment. It depends on where I'k going, what I'm doing. I've built a bronzing wardrobe that I'thou absolutely addicted to and will never requite upwards.
And I love my Amazing Face Pulverisation Foundation. Information technology's the quickest way to expect like y'all've been completely taking care of your peel and have been getting eight hours of sleep and drinking all the water that you should be drinking.
And so, those are my obsessive products that I use every twenty-four hour period.
When did you start getting into makeup?
Well, that'due south kind of funny that you asked that considering it's kind of weird. I was e'er an artist growing upwardly. I was that little kid who won art shows and was e'er cartoon, and I was obsessed with The Muppets! I went to art school and actually became an art teacher and taught kids art.
Ya know… Well, really in loftier school, I remember my friend, Bernadette was amazing, and she would spend three hours in the mirror doing her makeup. It was the late '80s and early on '90s, and I think thinking that this was just like another form of fine art. I clicked into that, and I remember the moment information technology clicked. I was sitting in her bath watching her. She was putting on, similar, eight different lipsticks to create whatever await she was doing.
Then, so I went to art schoolhouse. I went to animation schoolhouse for Disney and Warner Brothers. It was a sort of school where they'd discover talent and furrow them in [and it was there] I discovered makeup on accident. I got a chore at Estee Lauder behind the counter at Saks Fifth Avenue — it was all totally an accident, freakishly — and on my very showtime 24-hour interval behind the counter, it all fabricated sense. My art background, my creative groundwork, my dreaming — the style I looked at the world was very cartoonish, always, growing upwardly. I was always ready for, you know, the blimp animal to come live and talk to you. I was that child. I would look for the rainbow to come into my groundwork so I could climb information technology and become into the clouds. That was me.
And when I got my first client in the chair, I saw that this was just a different blazon of art medium, just it was an art medium that would transform people. Information technology would embed self-esteem into women. I saw the transformation that occurred when I was doing my fine art on people, not on paper. And I was hooked.
What's your all-time beauty time-saving trick?
My best beauty fourth dimension-saving trick? Okay! Alright, and so this is what y'all're going to do. You've going to wake up, and wash your face. You're going to utilize my tinted BB Creme, my BB Balm, because it's got every amazing skincare serum that I've ever tried in my life embedded into that formula. It's total of moisture, full of anti-oxidants, full of anti-aging, decongesting, wonderful ingredients but it also gives great coverage. And so, instantly, boom — nosotros've got your skin covered.
We're going to have my Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer that'south full of antioxidants and moisturizing ingredients, and we're going to spread that around the perimeter around your face up, closest to the hairline, around the jaw, and through your cheekbones. Boom! We've got you sculpted and you're ready go.
Y'all've got to put on my Ameliorate Than Sex Mascara, because it's so rich, and so thick, and the powered peptides in that thing make it so blackness that yous don't demand eyeliner. So you lot're going to wiggle that right along your lash line. Later that, a little bit of my Lip Injection Plumping Lip Gloss will become your lips full, pink and luscious, and you're out the door. Yous're ready to go to work, you lot're ready to continue a date, you're prepare to meet your kid's future married man, you're gear up to accept sex, any you want.
What's your favorite beauty tool?
Easy. Information technology's my Teddy Bear Hair Retractable Kabuki Castor. It's great for bronzers, it's keen for blushes, it'southward great for powders. It'south retractable and twists up and down.
If you lot go along the head twisted down almost so it's actually tight, and y'all simply become a mound, and the beard are tight, you lot get a lot of coverage. You could even employ information technology as a quick eyeshadow brush if yous wanted. You could utilize it as a sculptor. When you twist information technology up all the way and it gets to its fluffiest self, information technology's the perfect bronzer, loose powder, powder foundation applicator. And because information technology's constructed pilus, y'all could even utilize your liquid foundations with it. So it does everything!
What'due south the best dazzler advice you always received?
You lot've gotta smile. Y'all've got to feel it. You lot've got to love your life, yous have to feel it from the inside. Because you can practise anything you want in the earth to the outside, and it's not going to make any difference. The most beautiful people in the earth are the people who are happy, who are self-confident, and who dearest to be alive. Who are joyful, who are kind and full of love. You know?
What's your skincare routine?
Oh sh*t, do yous really want to go into that? Honey, we'll be on this call for 8 hours.
[KAREN: Okay…so give me the abbreviated version]
Ooooooh, HONEY. Obsessed with skincare! I have lots of groovy friends in the industry. No, I'm lucky plenty to come across and call friends similar Dr. Brandt one of them. I've been given as well much information so… (Laughs.) But considering of that, because I know of this, I'll tell you what I exercise. A lot of the things I use and love and depend on are in my makeup. Considering I've realized how of import information technology is, and how of import it is to preserve and take skilful care of your skin. And with science, nowadays, I can incorporate that into my cosmetics.
I'grand going to abbreviate it for yous because it gets scary! I use DermaQuest Peptide Mobilizer, and then I use Stem Cell Day Serum, and then I use a pare growth gel, information technology's Bio-Serum, it makes your skin abound thicker and stay healthy. I practice that. So, I utilise an eye serum. And I fluctuate dorsum and along.
And and then I use La Mer Eye Concentrate. The green i. It'due south amazing. There'southward nothing ameliorate. Let's merely be honest. Permit's cease looking, permit's stop hunting. Information technology's the bomb!
So I employ Dr. Brant Glow for the day… I layer a lot of sh*t on.
Sometimes I use Erno Lazlo REM Day Lotion SPF 30. It's insane! And nobody talks most it, but everybody compliments me on my skin when I habiliment it.
And then sometimes, I mix the Creme De La Mer Lotion, and I mix it with their new SPF xxx, and then I mix both of those together and I wearable that. You e'er accept to utilize sunscreen, ever, always, always.
Right on top of that baby I use my Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. Information technology's perfect for me. If you're paler, you utilise the Milk Chocolate. Then I add a little Bulletproof Brows to go on everything hunky dory, and I'grand out the door.
And do you lot want my night routine?
[KAREN: You know, I recollect we're good for at present.]
I know, correct? I told you! I don't know if you desire to go there. It gets intense.
What'southward the weirdest affair you've tried in the proper name of beauty?
Oh, sh*t! The weirdest thing I've tried? Well, I don't know if I should say this… A friend of mine (who we've talked about) works with a lot of celebrities. Madonna, in particular. And then I'g in my friend'due south office, and similar, Beyonce's in the hall, and Madonna's in the room adjacent to me.
Can I tell this story? Am I going to become in trouble? Maybe I shouldn't tell this story…
Well, heed, I simply simply said [to my friend] in a joking fashion, "Madonna Me." Like whatever's going on in there, practise it to me. Because she looks astonishing upward close. Seriously. She has, similar, no lines. Her pare'southward rich. Accept yous e'er seen her upward close?
[KAREN: Dude. If I always saw Madonna up close, I would die. I WOULD JUST DIE.]
Okay, well, she's got similar a late twenty-year-quondam'due south skin. I'k non kidding. It'due south weird. And so I said, "Madonna me!" and I laughed, "Ha ha!" and so a sh*t-storm of stuff happened. I'thou not going to tell you what happened, simply it wasn't painless. It was really intense. But I looked AH-MAY-ZING.
Practice you have a trademark await (pilus/styling/makeup)?
Well, really, I was born and blessed with great brows. It'southward but something that I have. I'm not tan, I'm not tall, and ya know, all of that. But I've always had adept brows, and that's kind of what I'one thousand known for. I don't groom them, I don't tweeze them, I don't have to do anything to them. I'm Italian, so my grandmother gave me amazing brows.
I always wear cardigans. That's my signature. And I like diamonds! Listen, if I'thou going to wear something, it's going to exist big, and it's going to offend people.
Are at that place any beauty decisions you've fabricated that you look back on and inquire yourself "why?!"
Well, I laugh, but you lot've gotta have risks, you've gotta have fun, you lot've gotta push it. I love style, whatever kind, fifty-fifty "bad." What I don't like is when somebody has no style, or they're afraid, or they're simply copying somebody else. Personal style to me is such a gift and such an important part of how you lot feel about yourself and how you express the inside of you lot. So, no. I've made some crazy-@ss decisions. I hateful, I've had, like, blueish hair, and I did all that stuff, and I had kind of a checkerboard on the side of my head at 1 point of my life, simply it's funny, ya know? I don't regret annihilation like that. It all goes away.
Where are your favorite places to shop?
I love Bergdorf's, I love Barneys, I love Mr. Porter. I beloved Ane King'southward Lane for really cool vintage home accessories.
Annihilation else yous want to share?
The most important thing I've learned on this journey is we practice proficient in the world. And that whether it'southward lipgloss or burritos or curing cancer, I don't care any lane you're in, only practise good, have integrity, build the best product you lot tin can, be the best person you can, and don't sell out your morals. And god will bless you, and you lot will be successful, and y'all'll become to happy land. Considering coin doesn't equal happiness. I've learned that. Simply what money does offer are options. And the more options you have, the more responsibility you have to do practiced. So be the best "y'all" you can be, and hopefully Likewise Faced tin can aid you feel your best on your journey.
